Internal solidification morphology, which is hard to measure, can be estimated using coagulation analysis simulations with CAE, and an appropriate design plan can be set up. Simulations reduce the need for prototypes which rely on intuition and experience. These simulations are not only used to shorten the production preparation stage lead time and reduce costs but also as a tool to improve product quality.


Before improvements

Internal defects predicted to occur due to solidification shrinkage caused by a closed loop inside the product.


Improvement 1

Modification of closed loop.
There is concern about flow of molten metal to the product, and the design plan is not optimal.


Improvement 2

Coagulation begins in the product part and quality inside the product is improved by supplying molten metal through a feeder (Directed Freezing)).
